Malawi Leaders of Learning is a unique opportunity and a new Scottish partnership being forged between the council’s education services and Malawi’s South West Division.
It’s a two-way charity and development scheme aimed at sharing resources and expertise between the two countries and ultimately improve the quality of learning and teaching in a challenging environment.
The council is working closing with two well-known charities on this exciting project, Link Community Development and Mary’s Meals, both already committed to changing the life chances of Malawi’s children.
The first tranche of the partnership will focus on the areas Blantyre Urban and Blantyre Rural which are districts in South West Region.
Teachers and education staff will be encouraged to share their expertise and skills with their counterparts in Africa and it’s envisaged that the first Glasgow group will visit the South West Region in May or June next year for an initial five week placement.
The city’s association with Malawi goes back many years with a number of schools across the city are already twinned or linked with schools in the East African country.
Schools across the city learn about each other’s culture and many Glasgow schools have raised valuable funds and sent resources to their Malawian friends over the years.
