The sun has finally made an appearance this summer and came out just in time for the council’s popular annual summer event – The Glasgow Show last weekend.
Every June visitors and tourists flock to Glasgow Green to watch a variety of events and showbiz personalities and this year they generously donated to Malawi Leaders of Learning as well.
During the weekend festivities over £700 was raised through donations and the sale of specially printed ‘My Glasgow’ cards – an art competition organised for Glasgow’s children and young people to design a postcard featuring their favourite city landscape or building.
After the summer break schools and nurseries will be able to buy batches of the cards to sell to family and friends and the profit raised will be split between school funds and MLOL charities.
Almost 700 entries to the art competition were received and all the judging panel involved were delighted with the range and quality of entries, but were all agreed on the outstanding artwork of the eventual winners.
Everyone who submitted an entry has been awarded a certificate for their sterling efforts.
“The final results look amazing and I’m sure schools will not have trouble selling the cards to raise funds”, remarked one of the judges.
The designs have been transformed into full colour greetings cards by Glasgow company Hobs Reprographics, who kindly sponsored the printing.
